About us
We are looking to recruit for several Non-Executive Directors within National Records of Scotland (NRS), a Non-Ministerial Department of the Scottish Government.
Our purpose is to collect, preserve and produce information about Scotland's people and history and make it available to inform current and future generations.
We are headed by Alison Byrne, Chief Executive, who fulfils the roles of two Non-Ministerial offices in the Scottish Administration:
- the Registrar General for Scotland
- the Keeper of the Records of Scotland
The Appointment
To help us deliver our strategic ambition, we are looking for people to join the Board as Non-Executive Directors, who have the relevant experiences and insights to support and guide us on this journey.
The successful applicants must be able to demonstrate all four of the essential criteria below:
- Strategic thinking;
- Analytical and decision-making skills;
- Governance and risk management; and
- Engagement, collaboration and constructive challenge.
You must also demonstrate evidence in respect of (at least) one of the priority criteria below.
- Data & digital technology;
- Business development, estates & property; and
- Understanding of information & knowledge services

Remuneration
Attendance is required at quarterly meetings of the Board for which there is remuneration within approved Tier 2 parameters of £255 per meeting. This is paid via SG payroll on behalf of NRS. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.
Attendance at additional meetings or workshops is likely to be required during the year, for which there is the same level of remuneration.
