NRS Strategic Board
The purpose of the NRS Strategic Board is to:
- provide support and constructive challenge on our operations, with a particular focus on the organisation’s strategic direction
- check we’re on track to deliver our purpose and vision
The board acts in an advisory capacity to the Chief Executive.
The board:
- considers the balance between business and transformation activities
- uses the experience of Non-Executive Directors (NXDs) to identify opportunities and emerging issues that we need to take into consideration

Audit & Risk Committee
The Audit and Risk Committee supports the Chief Executive Officer and Accountable Officer in their responsibilities for issues of:
- risk
- control and governance
- associated assurance
It does so through a process of constructive challenge.
The Committee is also attended by:
- NRS Chief Financial Officer
- Scottish Government Internal Audit Division and External Audit colleagues, who have an independent advisory role

Executive Management Board
The Executive Management Board is our overarching executive board. It's chaired by the Chief Executive of National Records of Scotland (NRS).
The board:
- sets the strategic direction of NRS
- has management and oversight of NRS key assets
It also:
- sets our strategic financial profile
- builds organisational capability and capacity through our people
- oversees use of and safeguarding of information assets
- directs the management of business operations and
- oversees the change activity to achieve the NRS vision

Joint Partnership Board
The Joint Partnership Board meets quarterly and consists of:
- the Chief Executive Officer
- the Director of Strategy & Business Services
- representatives from Human Resources
It also has representatives from our recognised trade unions:
The Board provides our Executive Management Board with the opportunity to:
- consult with trade unions when organisational policy is being formed and developed - including additional consultations with the Council of Scottish Government Unions (CSGU) as appropriate
- consult at both strategic and operational level
- discuss any NRS specific issues
