expect to live over 3 years longer (76.9 and 76.7 years
respectively) than men in large urban areas (73.4 years);
- Women in rural areas — remote and accessible — can
expect to live almost 2 years longer (80.9 and 80.8 years
respectively) than women in large urban areas (78.9 years);
- Men in the 10% least deprived areas of Scotland (according to
the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation 2006) can expect to live
for 13.1 years more than men in the 10% most deprived areas (80.2
years compared with 67.1 years);
- Women in the 10% least deprived areas of Scotland can expect to
live 8.6 years longer than those in the 10% most deprived areas
(83.6 years compared with 75.0 years);
- There is decreasing life expectancy with increasing
deprivation;
- The Community Health Partnership area with the lowest life
expectancy for men and women is North Glasgow (69.2 years and 76.0
years respectively). The highest are East Dunbartonshire for men
(78.0 years) and East Renfrewshire for women (81.9 years);
