I am delighted to introduce the National Records of Scotland (NRS) strategy for 2025/26-2030/31. NRS plays an important role in the lives of the people of Scotland, underpinning our nation’s democracy with vital records of our state and people. To ensure this contribution is maintained in the future, we have refreshed our corporate vision, mission and strategy. Our aim is to put Scotland’s people at the heart of our work, supported by close collaboration with our partners, stakeholders and customers.
While the strategy presents clear opportunities, it is also realistic about the challenges we face. Like all public bodies, we are mindful of the need to operate our services more sustainably, collaborate where we can and play our part in delivering better outcomes for the people of Scotland.
Our strategy sets out how we will embed the Scottish Government’s Public Service Reform Strategy into the work we do now and in the future, modernising and reforming our services to become more efficient. We will continue to support the delivery of the Scottish Government’s key priorities through the statistics we produce, including the delivery of Scotland’s census, and the services we provide. And we will transform our national archive in line with the changing world around us, ensuring NRS is fit for the digital age.
In doing this we deliver for everyone in Scotland, increasing access to stories, records and insights about all Scotland’s people and communities.
Our people are central to our success and the strategy sets out how we will support, equip, and motivate our teams to deliver change, underpinned by our shared values of being customer-centric, trustworthy, inclusive and collaborative.
This strategy is the result of significant engagement across the organisation and reflects the shared commitment of our teams to adapt and change to improve our services for our customers. In this way, we will continue to have a lasting impact on the lives of the people of Scotland, both today and for generations to come. I hope this strategy speaks to all our customers, colleagues and communities across Scotland.
