Education Scotland adopted the Scottish Governments eRDM objective system and its built in classification model in 2016 and continues to use it as its primary records system.
The vast majority of the public records of Education Scotland are held on eRDM. The eRDM provides Education Scotland with a wide information and knowledge sharing resource designed to enable efficiencies in the creation, sharing, retention and retrieval of information. It also enables compliance with related legislative requirements for example Freedom of Information Scotland Act (FoISA) and the Data Protection Act (DPA).
Every file that is created has a file type attached to it. The file type determines when the file will be closed and the action that will be taken on the file following closure.
Education Scotland maintains and manages a file plan of all its files within eRDM, tracking when files are created, when files are due for closure and when files are closed, so that appropriate action can be taken by business areas to manage their information at each stage of a records life.
