We are responsible for the care and preservation of collections:
- across all NRS sites
- under our care
What we do
Conservation and Preservation are an essential part of our Collection Care plan.
We monitor and keep our collection in a controlled environment. This is designed to mitigate the risk of loss damage and deterioration.
We work to ensure the good condition of the collections through assessing condition, checking, and surveying.
We also:
- collaborate with archivists and others on loans, displays and visits
- monitor the storage environment
- treat and conserve collections
- document our work for the future
Who we are
Our team are professionally qualified and with extensive experience. We work in line with professional standards set out by the Institute of Conservation (ICON) and international Conservation organisations.
All our treatments aim to balance accessibility and integrity of the objects with minimal intervention.
We do not provide private advice or services. For information and guidance on private conservators, check the ICON (Institute of Conservation) national register.
