You can request the temporary return of records you deposited with us, by law. To do so, contact us.
We aim to ensure that requests are processed within three working days.
Digital Retransmissions
Digital copies of records will only be provided for:
- Crown Estate Scotland
- Historic Environment Scotland
- Scottish Government
Record References
If you are unsure of the record you wish to have retransmitted:
- go to our online catalogue and
- search under the record name or reference (if known).
Otherwise, for court records, contact us to obtain the reference.
Handling Guidance
A handling guidance sheet is issued with every retransmission and should be followed carefully.
All our records have been selected for permanent preservation because they contribute something to the history of Scotland. Even if they are only a few years old at the moment, they:
- have been chosen to stand as a record of our times
- must be treated with special care.
All retransmitted material must be returned to the NRS as soon as possible.
