By law, we can provide the temporary return of records you deposited with us. We refer to this as ‘retransmission’.
To request the temporary return of records you deposited with us contact us.
We aim to process requests within three working days.
Digital Retransmissions
We will only provide digital copies of records for:
- Crown Estate Scotland
- Historic Environment Scotland
- Scottish Government
Record References
If you're unsure of the record you wish to have retransmitted:
- Go to our online catalogue.
- Search under the record name or reference (if known).
If you’re looking for court records, contact us to obtain the reference.
Handling Guidance
We issue a handling guidance sheet with every retransmission. You should follow it carefully.
All our records have been selected for permanent preservation because they contribute to the history of Scotland. Even if they are only a few years old, they:
- were chosen to stand as a record of our times
- must be treated with special care
All retransmitted material must be returned to the NRS as soon as possible.
