Census results are available for a wide range of census areas and this section provides some background on these areas and how they are defined.
One of the key reporting elements of the statistical products and datasets produced for a census is the geography or area that a table reports on. To support and enhance the use and understanding of census results specific geographical datasets are created.
Results from the census are available for a wide range of geographical areas, from the small area (Output Area) to the largest (Scotland).
The datasets provided are produced by National Records of Scotland Geography Branch for each census. Each dataset holds digital boundaries, indexes, lookups and supporting information.
