In April, the assessment team ran the spring series of Public Records (Scotland) Act 2011 surgeries in Balloch and Edinburgh. These focused on what authorities need to do to achieve compliance when developing their Records Management Plans (RMPs). For the first time, there was a presentation by the NRS Electronic Records Unit on what authorities should be thinking about when developing procedures for the permanent preservation and transfer of born-digital records. We also heard presentations from Scottish Enterprise and NHS National Services Scotland who spoke of their experiences when developing RMPs and the process of submitting them for assessment.

A proposed surgery in Montrose became a round table event due to a lack of demand for places where a more informal discussion with the authorities in attendance took place. This turned out to be a very worthwhile event, with authorities able to discuss their situations, share experience more openly and to draw on the guidance of the assessment team attendees.
