East End of Princes Street, 1858

This photograph, taken by George Washington Wilson, shows the east end of Princes Street and Calton Hill in 1858. Wilson was a pioneering Scottish photographer who branched out from portraits to landscape photography around this time and his company became the largest and best known photographic and printing firm in the world.
