The many features of Edinburgh, 1851

John Rapkin, an English mapmaker and engraver, drew this fascinating urban map of Edinburgh in 1851 depicting Edinburgh’s streets and railway lines. The illustrations, including coloured vignettes of Edinburgh from the north west, the Royal Institution, Royal High School Burns’ Monument, Scott Monument and General Assembly Hall were drawn and engraved by Henry Winkles, an English architectural illustrator, engraver and printer.
