In 1766 a competition to plan the New Town of Edinburgh was launched. Copies of this ground plan by John Laurie, showing Edinburgh’s property on the North Side of the town intended to be rented out for building, was issued to entrants. Properties and roads are noted on the plan along with names of the owners and feuars. You can find out more about the winner, James Craig, on our Hall of Fame page.
